39 Days Until Taiwan: Visa

So I'm currently filling out my Taiwan Visa application! I'm kinda in love with it because every line is in both Chinese and English!

However, I have to fill out another Health Form that has to be signed by a doctor. I know many of you don't know this, but I had to do a pretty intense physical when I got accepted into the program. I don't want to have to do anything more with this! I hope I can just go to the doctor I got the physical from and just have him sign off on this one!!!

Anyway, as I'm going through my Visa application and reading the "I certify that" section, at the very end the document says:

I mean, I'm not a drug trafficker or anything so it doesn't really apply to me, but Does anyone else think that the penitly is kinda harsh???

REALLY??? Death because of drugs???

But I guess a caning in Singapore for spitting out gum is fairly harsh too, and of course I've seen Brokedown Palace. Ah well, another interesting day in my path to Taiwan!!!

40 Days Until Taiwan: Books

I have finally picked out all the books I am planning to take with me to Taiwan as reference materials for making lesson plans, curriculum, etc!

I'm missing my curriculum design book though! I'm really upset about that!

I'm also ordering two other books that Dr. Hult recommended for me! So, yeah, I will have some nice extra fees on my hands for my luggage!

40 Days Until Taiwan: Pack...ing

For those of you who don't already know, I received a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship Grant in Taiwan! I have to be in Taiwan on August 1st! That also means I've had A LOT of work to do in getting ready to leave!

So this past weekend was devoted to packing for Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

I officially have WAY too many clothes I want to take. I know that in Taiwan I won't be able to find clothes to fit me, being a fairly overweight 6'2 girl. I don't really fit the Asian mold to say the least. So I have to bring all the clothes I am going to wear for 11 months.

Luggage:

• 1 extremely large suitcase (pictured above): It is now completely full, but I still have to fit in my coat/jackets, underwear, pajamas, and workout clothes
• 1 carry-on bag: It will be used to hold my clothes and other things I will need during my 2 day layover in Los Angeles
• 1 computer bag: I of course will be taking that with me to kill time.

I am allowed to bring one more bag with me, but I really don't know how I could navigate 3 rolling bags with my computer bag added to it all!

Anyway, all the boring packing stuff aside.

All I have left to do before I go to Taiwan is:

- Get my Visa
- Attend Washington D.C. Training on July 13th
- Sell my car
- Get a loan deferment
- and figure out the whole packing situation

I think I will get it all done in 40 days!!! Wish me luck!

Fun Fact: I have around 15 pairs of shoes I am bringing with me to Taiwan and 10 of them are already packed in the huge red suitcase!!!
